BMW Eigenbau
No, I'm sorry!
DAMW?
AFM Streamline of 1948
I'd guess it is Alexander von Falkenhausen in the cockpit
It's not him though it's indeed an AFM streamliner!
Give you 12h to find the right name! (in fact you won't need more than five minutes!)
Emil Vorster?
You're veeery close now! My source reports that it's most likely someone else.
Zoot alors!
Give me a little time to dig further!
okay I give you another 12h.
Gunter or Gustav Nonninger?
Yes, I think it's him!
Quote: "[...] Note the extended exhaust pipe at the side - according to Nonninger this had to be done after the car failed scrutineering, and therefore at night Nonningers bunch "transferred" a fallpipe from a house in the Hockenheim suburbs [...]" ;D
Verrry interesting and amusing postscript!

That's a great angle of this car!
15 years later I may have some relevant news about this car:
This German magazine wrote it was an MG-based AFM at Hockenheim in 1948.
Can anybody confirm this?
Vorster drove a MG racecar in 1947 before he changed to the Fiat-powered AFM. Maybe the newspaper kept the habit of assuming Vorster always drove MG-engined cars. The "Das Auto" magazine 5/1948 clearly states that it is Fiat-powered.
