I don't know what it is, but my first impression is: German, around 1950, BMW-based.
That's definetely right!
I need a name or two, though...
Was it used for racing?
Yes!
Any relation to Alex von Falkenhausen or is it more obscure?
more obscure.
BTW: it's German indeed, but ...
BTW, I thought so ;)
It's still alive:
Bechem AFM 50-BMW of Karl-Gunther Bechem c.1951?
It is the Werkmeister-BMW, built by East German Georg Werkmeister on a BMW 328 base. He started work around 1949 and finished the car in 1952. The body was built by Georg Hufnagel from Eisenach. The engine developed between 92 and 120 hp and propelled the car up to 200-220 km/h. It was used as a race car from 1952 to 1954. In 1959 it was rebuilt as a a road car using a EMW 340 engine.

That's the one! Very well done, though I expected this one would last a lot longer!
