What is the merit of making the car appear to be moving forward, when it is reversing?

Maybe if Toyota was paying attention to automobiles, and not this silly thing, the Koreans wouldn't be taking so much of their business away.

As I understand it, the Delta Beetle was not a regular Toyota prototype, but won the Gold metal at the Toyota Idea Olympics in 1991.
