Make, model, year and coachbuilder of this unusual limousine for a point.
An extra point may be on offer if anyone can tell me who it was built for.

I'm moving some Rookie puzzles up a level as there has been no response to them.....
This is the first for the Experts now.

I understood that all Panhards from 1920 had sleeve-valves?

Probably a 35 CV.
Surprisingly it is almost half that size....

Surely it's a 16 CV. But I'm intrigued by that box out back. Do the louvers indicate it houses some kind of machinery, such as a generator?

Larger than a 16CV.
I really don't know what the rear extension's purpose is.
Interesting to note the lack of headlights and I would imagine that the spare wheel was carried just ahead of the rear wheels.
The photo was probably taken outside the coachbuilder's premises prior to the car being finished.

Another intriguing thing is those very wide rear wheels and tires. Was that thing in the box so heavy?

I think this is a 1921 20 HP Limousine Spéciale, Type X34, by Pingret & Breteau and made for the duke of Valençay. The rear wheels are double.

Absolutely correct!
I thought this would be really difficult to solve, so well done and two points to you.
Do you have any more information regarding the structure on the back?

DynaMike

Thanks for the double points...  :) I'm really sorry I don't have any extra info. This is all that is revealed by Bernard Vermeylen in his great book "Panhard & Levassor - entre tradition et modernité" (éditions ETAI, 2005).

That book is on my wants list.
My info comes from another excellent book - "Gotha de l'Automobile Francaise" by Claude Rouxel & Laurent Friry.
