Match the right location to the right car or vice versa.
To score you need to name the make and model designation and the exact places.
Score 2 points for each pair – score none for incomplete answers!
As usual points will be added afterwards.
If you haven't registered yet, you'll need to do so

You make me sick! ;D
Is that puzzle really so easy?
-
"You might very well think that; I couldn't possibly comment."
-
Ah I see, you've navigated an unmanned aerial vehicle behind my back...
-
Then I would have looked out for those cars, I don't have a clue for. ;)
-

No.
Oops ! I'm afraid that my Danube knowledge is over. If it's not the Dunakanyar at Esztergom I don't know what to say. BTW, I've been at a camping place in Visegrad looking at the Danube. Very nice place. Which reminds me Veliko Gradište. Another wonderful camping place where bathing in the Danube was magic. My last try : the Danube Delta ?
-

Sorry, not that either.
-
It is the Danube at Hainburg in Austria. In the background you can see the Autobahn bridge at Bad Deutsch-Altenburg.
As far as I am concerned, those two points belong to pguillem, nonetheless.
-

I only had it saved as "River Donau/Danube at Hainburg (A)"
Wendax: this is a place for accurate answers. In this case and just for once I split two points in one for you and one for pguillem.
-
Six cars & places to go. I'll move this to the Pro's board soon.
-
Place # 15 - Car # 3:
Jackson Square, New Orleans
Jackson Special, winner of first NZ Grand Prix (Ohakea 1950)
-
Place # 6 - Car # 8:
De La Salle High School Car (as mentioned before)
De La Salle University, Manila
-
Assume place #11 fits car #6, which I believe both are Danube.
-
Place # 15 - Car # 3:

Right!
Place # 6 - Car # 8:
De La Salle High School Car (as mentioned before)
De La Salle University, Manila
Right!
Assume place #11 fits car #6, which I believe both are Danube.
??? This one has already been solved.
-

I believe it was not listed in solved at the time that I was looking.. Sorry :)
-
Place # 15 - Car # 3:
Jackson Square, New Orleans
Jackson Special, winner of first NZ Grand Prix (Ohakea 1950)
Though you named the right place and the right car I spotted a mistake. The match (car#03) is wrong.
My bad! :-[
-
The Jackson Special in its initial guise is car # 14.
-
The Jackson Special in its initial guise is car # 14.
Yes, it wasn't that hard anymore.
If you think car#03 is a Jackson Special as well I have to say that it's not congruent with my infos.
-
Thanks to Wendax almost alone there's not so much left for the Pro's.
Moved to the highest level.
-
Place # 13 North Island, New Zealand
Car #3 North Island Special
-
Place # 13 North Island, New Zealand
Car #3 North Island Special
Close, but no cigar!
-
Place # 13 Northland, New Zealand
Car #3 Northland Special
-
Place # 13 Northland, New Zealand
Car #3 Northland Special
That's it!
-
Coincidentally the Northland Special really seems to be the former Jackson Special from NZ.
I didn't know that as I started this puzzle.
The car is the current Northland Special (...) in original form. Built as the Jackson Special by John Mc Millan, winner of the first NZ Grand Prix at Ohakea, then sold to Halsey Logan of the Nelson district. Had chain drive from the back of the gearbox to a side shaft then to a very offset diff. This allowed the very low seating position. Halsey converted it to a conventional axle before selling to George Palmer to become the Palmer Special, and a very long string of other names. Still competing after close on 60 years with over ten meeting average per year!
-
No4: Crowfoot Glacier, Alberta Canada matches with Car No9 which is a Crowfoot-Holden special
-
No4: Crowfoot Glacier, Alberta Canada matches with Car No9 which is a Crowfoot-Holden special
That was a hard one!
-
And I was already thinking of checking all the glaciers listed in Wikipedia, if anyone looks like picture #4. :D
-
Where are the luminaries for custom-made cars?
-
I know what place 8 is, but can't find any connection to the remaining cars :disbelief:
-
I know what place 8 is, but can't find any connection to the remaining cars :disbelief:
I'm curious about your suggestion..
-
Since I'm stuck, I might just as well publicate my knowledge. Place #8 is Marseille, looking at the Archipel du Frioul, consisting of the islands Pomègues, Ratonneau, Tiboulen and Château d'If, where Alexandre Dumas placed the adventures of the Count of Monte Cristo. My guess is that it matches with car #15, but I couldn't find a name for it.
The only connection between Marseille and one of the pictured cars is a bit slippery (when wet):
-
All things you've said are correct of course, but still, the name I've been looking for isn't mentioned, yet.
We see something on that pic, quite obvious, but overlooked easily...
-
Could it be that car #1 is the Notre Dame University car, that matches with place #8 Notre Dame de la Garde in Marseille?
-
No, you already found the right pairing.
You only need to find the right names.. ;)
-
So it is place #8 and car #15?
-
Yes!
-
Digue du Berry ???
-
Digue du Berry ???
No..
It would be easier to look at that "place" from a different angle...
-
As for the last pair, is place No2 located in Europe?
-
Yes.
-
Probably British
-
British it is..
-
London?
-
Not London.
-
A big city (over 1,5 million people)?
-
Not a city as such. Think a little bigger...
-
So it is an aristocratic home (Castle, Manor, County House etc.) somewhere in the beautiful landscape, hidden between heath, hill and hedges. And all we know is that its name has something in common with a Corvette custom car pretending to play the title role in "Jaws IV". :sigh:
-

The car was customized by someone not unknown to attentive autopuzzlers.
The picture of the location shows an aristocratic building somewhere in Great Britain.
Asked for is not the buildings name, but where it's located. It's not a city and in a certain part of GB you find 32 of them...
-
Off to Scotland, then
-
Right!
-
So it is Darnaway Castle in County of Moray and the Corvette Moray, from which a modern interpretation was done by Ital Design.

Very good! :applause:
Tell me the name of the cutomizer and two well deserved points are yours.
-
I only could find the name Joel Rosen in connection with Moray. Is it him?
-

The plate in front of the car names someone else..
I lock this for you for 72 h as you've found almost everything required for this puzzle.
-
Is the Marseillan "place" something particular in the picture like the Chateau d'If or something more general like the Provence?
-
Well, as I agreed with Allemano that I can't solve this one, I may as well answer. It is a particular place on the picture (just like the Chateau d'If)
-

Since I'm absolutely not into American custom cars, you can unlock this puzzle. I just know a few customizers like George Barris, Dean Jeffries or the Alexander Brothers, and I have no idea who could it have been and who not. Perhaps someone else knows something about the Moray.

Okay Wendax, let's be fair.
I give you one point for the work you've already done. I give another easy point to the one who gives me that missing name....
Well, as I agreed with Allemano that I can't solve this one, I may as well answer. It is a particular place on the picture (just like the Chateau d'If)
Pal is right though it might be a little red herring ;D. On the other hand it's indeed a little more general..
-
Thank you (for the point, not for the herring) :hail:
-
It would be easier to look at that "place" from a different angle...
I give it away now:
-
The final combination:
Place #8 Golfe du Lion matches with car # 15 Airconcept Lion
-
Airconcept Lion and Golfe du Lion
Easy after all, eh? :D
One tiny little point is still available!
-
At least, I've learned a lot about Marseille these days. :D
-
Come on custom car fans!
It can't be that hard anymore.
-
Well, it seems to be up to me ;)
Was the Corvette Moray made by Boyd Coddington?
-
No.
-
...
-
Was the Corvette Moray made by Joe Wilhelm?
-
No, it was made by the man working at the body shell...
hint! hint! hint!.. the finished car was posted before
-
Well, why should I answer? It would just shorten the wonderful Expert time. But otherwise it would just be fair. And I still can tie my hands on my back when I will have reached 199 points ;)
The creator of the Corvette Moray is Ron Aguirre.
-
No, it's not Ron Aguirre my little bird! ;D
-
That leaves me some more expert time ;)
-
Crucify me! ;D
It's Joe Cruce.
-
Woo Hoo! Well done! :applause:
Coincidental find?
And with Wendax correct reply all Cars and Places have been discovered!
A plentiful harvest for Wendax who solved this group puzzle almost alone! :o
On the other hand it spares me a lot of work...
Here's the bill:
Wendax: 13 x 2 points + 1 point = 27 points :hail:
pnegyesi: 2 points
pguillem: 1 point
-
Joe Cruces' Moray Corvette with the plate in front:
-
Coincidental find?
Not coincidental, just following the idea of looking for Kustom instead of Custom while searching the Solved section.
Anyhow, great puzzle. Can't wait for the fourth edition. ;D ;D ;D
-
Thanks.
Alas, I'm afraid that the 4th edition gonna take some time till it's ready.
-
Wendax: 13 x 2 points + 1 point = 27 points
WOW!
Is this an Autopuzzles record? I don't think anyone has managed such a high score from a single puizzle before!
-

Well. I've earned 30 points in Carnut's Big Bus Puzzle so far. ;)
