My final Puzzle about cars, and songs about cars (or other modes of transport, real or imagined), and the artists who recorded those songs. This swan-song installment once again spans the scale from "this is ridiculously easy" to "what, are you kidding me?! It skews to the latter, I hope. >:D
The rules are as follows: No points for naming one of these cars - they are mostly quite easy. The points will be awarded for identifying the artist (1 point each), the song (1 point each), and the correct pairing (1 point each) as represented by a corresponding picture of a car, or an automotive event. While many of these artist have gone on to other walks of life, or that recording studio in the sky, and though their records may be long-since out-of-print, there are no insider-only "you have to have the book" requirements. Patience and good detective work is all that is required to find the solution to all of these. The answers are all available to the general public.
Enjoy!

Sorry to be a pain, but I'm confused.
Apologies if I've got it wrong, but something seems to have gone adrift. In the results listing on the first page Marshall Crenshaw (G) is linked with On the Run (6), but as far as I can see Song 6 has not been identified anywhere in the puzzle yet.
Amsterdam first mentioned On the Run in Reply #22, suggesting it was Song 8. Reply #23 said it was the right song but wrong picture. He then suggested Song 11 in Reply #24, rejected in #27. He then suggested Song 1 in Reply #31, which was said the be correct in #32.
But now it seem that Song 1 is Wheels.
The confusion seems to have started around Reply #30, and come to a head in #41, where the two quotes are actually talking about different pairings - pnegyesi about the Flying Burrito Brothers and Wheels, and Amsterdam about Marshall Crenshaw and On the Run.
At least I think that's what's happened. ???

You're right. So, from here on, I will only say "yes" or "no" to those guesses that call out the letter or number of the picture, and the artist or song the guesser believes goes with the picture. Follow up questions such as "OK, how about (name of song)?" will be rejected as incomplete.

Artist D is one of many to record a version of this song. Which song? You don't have to go far, to find the answer.
Guitar-playing artist J was a session musician, but also charted a number of recording where he sang and, sometimes, played some memorable guitar licks. Others were often fluffy covers of songs that had already charted for others.
At least one of them featured a very familiar opening guitar riff. However, that song's very existence might seem a puzzling non sequitur to our friends in the UK ..... where's the harpsichord?
Alas, that song is not featured here. But this lavish and generous clue might get you somewhere.

And if that doesn't work, I struggle for any way to make this easier.
OK, the clues filter through - but slowly!
Artist D is Ronnie Spector, one-time wife of Phil (Spector, that is, not Phil the dog). ;D
And I guess the song which many others have recorded, and which appears in Autopuzzles, must be the Beach Boys' Don't Worry Baby (Brian Wilson/Roger Christian). I gather that the lyrics make oblique reference to drag racing, so I'm guessing that Song 13 is the picture to link with it.
I don't think I've ever been as generous with clues for one song... :P

The artists are right; the songs you've matched them with are not.
Nadine is one of the songs, but not the Johnny Rivers cover.
How does Oguerrerob find these thing? :applause:
Anyway, I think the song to go with The Banshees (C) would be the flip side of "They prefer blondes", which is "Take a ride with me", and I think it matches with the Song 12 picture.
Other places don't mean a thing to me
'Cause I know a place where life is free,
So grab your little suitcase,
C'mon and take a ride with me.
Chuck Berry's song Nadine was covered by the A-Cads (Artists M) in 1966. That would match with the Song 14 picture.
I saw her from the corner when she turned and doubled back
And started walkin' toward a coffee colored Cadillac.

Right! You know well that more than ID'ing the artist's image is required to solve these. Click the link to hear this song.

Right again.
I'm not too sure about this, but is the song to go with Johnny Rivers (Artist J) "Six days on the Road", which he covered in 1974?
The "ultimate overworked rig driver's lament", I thought it might link with Song Picture 8, the highway at night.
My hometown's coming in sight,
If you think I'm happy you're right,
Six days on the road and I'm gonna make it home tonight.
No, not that song - thought you've identified elements of the correct song.
Is it Johnny Rivers (Artist J) and Song 8, "Lights on the Highway"?

Yes!
Are this guys left well-known?
Absolutely not. Incredibly obscure.
Are they American? 90s?
They may have existed and performed in the '90's. To my knowledge, they recorded only one album, after the 1990's were through.
Clue to the last remaining artists...
You might recognize these guys. One was well-known for years, one enjoyed 15 minutes of fame.
Or, a lazy puzzler might have the folks in Mountain View ID them for you. If the solution comes from outside the US, I'll be 99.9% sure that you did just that.
At last - Artist O and Song 15. In fact I had the answer months ago, but thought it was wrong.
It's The Corvair Song by the Joe Parr Band.
If you Google "Corvair song" it comes up in the first few hits, on either web or image searches, but I just couldn't match any photographs I could find of the Joe Parr Band (and there aren't many) with any of the artist pictures in the puzzle, so I rejected it as a possibility.
Then I eventually came back to the clues. I recognised the first guy, but couldn't remember who he was. I didn't know the second, but from the cards he's holding I guessed he might be a quiz show host. In fact he wasn't, but a Google image search on "quiz show host" did find him, albeit on page 42, with images restricted to black and white only.
The name Jack Paar made me think back to the Joe Parr Band, then in one of those (http://i.imgur.com/2WV1y.gif) moments I remembered who it was in the first clue. We get extensive (if not excessive) coverage of US Presidential election campaigns in the UK, and Mr Wurzelbacher, aka "Joe the Plumber" was no stranger to our screens in 2008.
So Joe Parr looked like the answer after all, but I still couldn't square it with the photo. I found that Joe Parr has some photo albums online - 49 of them in fact. I'd skimmed a few, but they are mostly friends and family, and to an outsider, I'm afraid they are excruciatingly boring. But this afternoon I decided to go through them methodically, and luckily I only had to look through the first eleven before the puzzle picture came up.
I'm not sure that it's the standard line-up of the band, but at least Joe Parr is in it (he's the one with the saxophone), and I can at last offer the answer with some degree of confidence. ;)
That's some fine sleuthing, Tom_I
This puzzle has proven to be an excellent example of the power of detective work, and leveraging clues.
It's clear that Google's Search by Image served to identify many of the artists (you know who you are - no need to concoct a story about how you've long been a collector of pop and rock music about cars). OK, fine - at the time this puzzle was posted, that wasn't technically against the rules. As it turns out, it led mostly to a lot of wild guesses. It was fitting that the people who did actual detective work scored most of the points.
