For a point: who built it, where and what was the donor? (Sorry about the quality of the picture)
Was this picture taken a fraction of a second after the car struck a pedestrian in Edinburgh?
:lmao:
:lmao:
A FIAT 850-based Abarth?
A very far cry from the truth as this car isn't Italian at all
Did any of our experts ever seen this?
It´s a Ferrari BB with Miura front?
No, not at all
Professionals, here's your chance to tell me: who created this sporty thing and what was its donor.
Despite its exotic looks, was the donor a VW Beetle?
Nope
Clue: the donor and the builder are both German
NSU based?
Nope, something bigger
Are there Porsche bits under that swoopy bodywork?
Nope, no Porsche bits that I am aware of
not an air-cooled engine, then?
nope
you mean yes...?
Not air cooled — yes!
Air cooled — no!
Sorry. It is not powered by an air-cooled engine.
BMW?
So, likely a front drive car's powertrain mounted behind the driver.
Is it Audi-powered?
Neither BMW nor Audi, but one of their competitors :)
Mercedes-Benz?
Yes, the donor was a Mercedes-Benz. Now, this was the easy part :)
Let's give you a little clue: builder is from Dortmund and the family business is still active, but there's no word on this car anywhere on their site.
Rose?
Nope
Was the builder a Mercedes dealer? (like Rose still is!)
No, the guy who built this was involved in, let's say, the auto-parts business. Not a mechanical part, but a part. Today the company, which bears his name is being run by someone else. He's still active in another field.
Another one goes to the Black Hole
any more pics available?
Was the builder active in the tuning scene?
I never heard about this guy, just found this article from 1971...
It says that the guy who built this planned a yearly run of 15 units. I doubt it ever happened
Was Hans Gunther Schmid, of ATS wheels fame, from Dortmund?
I don't know, but this is not from him.
Is the company 9FF Fahrzeugtechnik GmbH of Dortmund?
No, it was a rather unknown company, and as I see it, the family is loosely connected to the automotive industry today
This is the 1969 RIBEC, built in Dortmund, powered by a Mercedes Benz 600´s modified engine.
It was supposed to be built in little numbers - obviously it turned out as a one-off...
I´ve found the same pictures in a 1969 "auto motor und sport" magazine:
Wow, very cool! You've found it!
Congratulations! :applause:
There's a small tipo: Walter Ribic built this car, you can find his bio at Ribic Systems.
And you are probably right, Swiss Automobile Revue probably just took over the article from AMS a little late.
Anyhow, two very well deserved points have been added to your tally!
Contacted the Ribic-company in Dortmund. Maybe I get a phone call of Mr. Ribic later...
