Can you crack this one for Christmas? I think this is quite a tough puzzle, so should help to keep you occupied over the coming Festive holidays. So, make and model name please for a point. Once solved, I shall add some more photos of this unusual vehicle.
Have fun, and a very Merry Christmas to you all :joker:
Rookies get all of the good presents... :'(
;)
Time to spread the Christmas cheer around, so have the Experts got any ideas?
The sliding front door and upturned door handle keep reminding me of a Bedford CA van.
Anything to do with Vauxhall/Bedford in the UK?
Very much something to do with Vauxhall/Bedford, so any idea what this model was planned to be called? Locked to you.
I've drawn a blank on this one so far, I'm afraid. :-\
So please open it up for someone else to have a shot. :)
OK, thanks Tom. I have awarded you a point anyway for guessing that this is a Bedford, but what could the planned model name have been? Now open to all.
Up to the Pros for the model name.
Taxi prototype?
No, not specifically a taxi prototype, but planned as a van and/or a 'people carrier'.
Bedford CA Dormobile Caravan 1961
It is a Bedford, but not a CA.
1971 Bedford Autproject 3 based on CF?
No, this one is earlier than 1971.
Bedford 10/12 Cwt Van
Do you know it's proposed model name? Locked to Oguerrerob until next reply.
Not quite sure. All that I've found out is that they called it Dormobile. Then they drop Bedford name for Astravan. If not let it open to everyone!!
Sorry, but not quite the answer I was looking for. Dormobile was a UK-based company that converted many Bedford vans into campers (and mini buses). The Astravan was the last model to wear a Bedford badge before being re-branded Vauxhall, in line with GM UK's the passenger car model range.
Now open to all-comers again.
Shooting Brake?
No, not that.
Dormobile was a Martin Walter product, and they and Kennex were, from memory, the main CA converters. Was this from either of them, or was it a GM in-house development?
This was a 100% in-house GM design.
Is it based on the Viva HC or is it FWD ?
Front looks CF like but appears to be too short to be RWD.
Vivacity if Viva based.
It is not Viva HC-based, but I believe that it is RWD as GM in Europe took far too many years to drag itself into the FWD era.
I thought we'd already established this was based on a Bedford CA (Tom I's reply #3)?
I've found this picture
That's the CA!
The Black Hole beckons!
Is it based on the Bedford CB which was to replace the CA van but for various reasons was cancelled.
Nice idea, not sadly not a correct one, as this is smaller than the both the Bedford CA and CB.
If it's a 100% in-house design that probably rules out the name Roma that may have been a Martin Walter design?
No, not Roma as that was a Martin Walker name, as you rightly say. This Bedford has a shorter model designation.
Thinking of the era and the look of its rear end, the Luton poetry circle would have named it the "DA".
Oooh, you are getting much warmer. Not DA, but locked to you until your next reply.
Thanks, but please unlock. I'd just be answering "DB" or "DC" etc etc in turn with absolutely nothing to base it on.
its not something stupid like Bedford MPV is it ?
If not is it 2 or 3 letters or a proper name.
The name has just two letters.
Lets try something in the direction of the HA / Beagle. I supposed it's a bit older than that, so my guess is GA.
GA? I'm honoured, as they are my initials! However, it's not GA.
EA?
EA is not in the game!
Perhaps DF?
Getting colder.
HA?
DB?
FA?
GA?
None of the above (and GA has already been sugested).
PA?

PA?
That was a Cresta, and usually two-tone pink/rust in colour ;D
DC?
PV for Passenger Van ?
Not DC. Not PV
PC for Passenger Cargo ?
MK?
Not MK.
HD ?
Not HD.
DV?
Not DV.
DD?
Not DD.

DD?
Good thing there are only 676 two-letter combinations available. :D
Nothing wrong about Double D, isn't it? ;)
Clue. Head lower down the alphabetic range.
XA?
Lower, not higher!
:bag:
CC?
CC? No, it's not a CoupeCabriolet ;D
Go lower.
AA? :hyper:
Let's start with AA
OK AB
This could also take a while! Move forward very slightly.
BB?
Oohh, so close!
BA?
GOAL!!! At last. Well done.
The Bedford BA was an early 1960s prototype for a small delivery van and station wagon, based on the Vauxhall Viva HA. Development stopped before it could make production. I have another photo of the BA that I will upload after the Goodwood Revival is over.
I love those intellectually challenging puzzles! :D
I really would love to know more about this vehicle.
According to a very reliable source these are two concepts with a certain code each:
