I know this may be difficult for a Rookie but without any response I'll move it up to the next level very soon.....

woodinsight

Based on a very well known car.
Clue- think 1970s!

Those door-handles look awfully familiar!
Don't tell me this is based on a BL car?!

FRIUL LIBAR

woodinsight

Not BL and not Zagato
Another clue - this was a one-off designed for a particular "competition"
Very well designed and built for a one-off

Vauxhall Viva/Firenza based?  GM design competition?

Sorry for the pointless response, but i'm really surprised that this hasn't been solved yet. I for one have seen this car several times over the years in magazines and online.... Maybe everyone else is having the same trouble I am, that of a total failiure of my memory!  Very, very frustrating! ::)

Whilst i'm here I may as well have a guess.... (edit: Looks like carnut beat me to it!)

woodinsight

Carnut - Nothing to do with GM but you are on to something when you say a design competition.
If you can establish a certain year you might be able to find it.

Barrett - I understand your frustration - I mislay information all the time.
I haven't looked for it on the Internet but you are correct in saying that it has been featured in magazines.

Is the car Vauxhall-based then?

woodinsight

Not Vauxhall based but it is from one of the major manufacturers

woodinsight

Do I hear gnashing of teeth and polishing of nails from the Pros on this one?
Be patient your turn may come soon!

Ford?

woodinsight

Yes!
It was based on a Ford ........
This car has its own name though.
Final clue - It won a certain design competition

woodinsight

That's the name!
Can you also complete the question as to designed it and the year?
Locked for you until your next reply.

studhamsmudger

The Cirrus won the British Styling Competition in 1971. It was based on the Ford Escort but was the work of Michael Moore of Chrysler UK. Bodywork was by Woodall Nicholson.

woodinsight

That's exactly correct - well done and another point for you.

Allemano

The front view isn't what I'd expected of a competition winner...  :-\

woodinsight

I agree - it looks as though they forgot to finish the front.
Apart from that though - not bad.
