Is the name somehow connected with the material?

Like ''Stilgoe's woody''? (wild guess)

woodinsight

No - not that.
It's a 3-letter name that stands for three separate words.
The 3 letters could be a type of snake - there I've given it away now!

ASP is correct - any idea what it means?

ASP A Stilgoe Product?  ;D

I'm still feeling in a festive mood so I'm going to award a few points for this one that I'm sure it would have ended up in the Black Hole.

One point for Amsterdam who guessed Richard Stilgoe and that the body was wooden.
One point for Joao for getting the correct name of the car (ASP stands for All Spare Parts by the way).
One point for Allemano who guessed it was based on a Porsche.

The car was presumably built in the 1960s on a Porsche 356 base with a VW engine. The body was crafted in plywood, cost £400 and was completed in 18 months by Richard Stilgoe.

Beware though I'm not so likely to be so lenient with future puzzles even though I dislike puzzles ending up in the BH.
