The question is not what but why and the answer worths a point.

They are front wheel drive units supplied to coachbuilders in this form for the fitment of specialist bodywork such as modular ambulances, motorhomes or car transporters (the coachbuilder fabricating the rear of the chassis).

So why does it have 2 front ends and (apparantly) 2 engines? I know of does chassis' (my wife works in the business) they use ...

This is the correct answer and the point is your!

They are just trasnported coupled because it's the easiest and most compact way to have 4 wheels.
In this configuration they go to Al-Ko factories where are uncoupled and a special rear chassis is fitted to each half of the so-called "back-to-back".

I did it.
It's nothing different than a usual car, because one of the two has the gearbox in neutral (of course) and the steering locked in straight position.

You could do a good bit of stunt driving with it. One driving left, the other driving right, crab steer...
