Viewing this car from a different angle shows better how huge it really is:

Here's another picture.
The guy who owns it reckons it's based on a Jeep chassis with a 4.2 litre straight-six engine (which must be a Jaguar XK); i.e. not Range Rover based, unless it's just a different version?

If it's got a Jeep chassis, it could be powered by Jeep's AMC-derived 258 cu in (4.2 L) six, used in Jeeps from 1971 to 1990. International Harvested also used this engine in their Jeep-like vehicles for a number of years.

Aha - you're probably right.  If it did have a Jaguar engine he would probably have said so..

There are quite a few images out there of the Safari, but I don't think I've seen a picture of the engine.
