Title: Solved: Wendax 111 - Hans A. Muth proposal for a four-seater Porsche 1958
Post by: Wendax on April 07, 2011, 07:48:09 AM
This one was just a proposal and was never realized.

For one point, please respond and identify the make, the artist and the year.

This looks very much like a Porsche proposal I've seen but I can't remember where.
Am I on the right track?

Yes, it is a proposal for a Porsche. After you found out the What, tell me the Who and When.

The unaltered proposal:

Think it was by one of the Italian Carrozzieri; Pininfarina?

In order to spare you the work of going through the carrozzerias (and me always answering "no"): it is not Italian.

No, in fact it was not done by a coachbuilding company, but by an individual.

Goertz proposal for an up-dated 356?  Maybe around 1959/60?

The year is almost right, but the man isn't.

So I guess it must be 1961, but I'm blowed if I can find out who did it!

Bad news! The year went in the wrong direction, and it is not time for further clues yet.

Sorry, my last reply meant that Pininfarina was already ruled out.
The year 1958 is correct, AFAIK.

Yes, I was going to say 1958 and in fact I Googled using 1958 but thought it just looked a bit too advanced with that twin-headlight front for 1958 so I thought I'd try 1961 first..

Then I was going to try 1958 if '61 was wrong!

Will keep searching but so far Google has failed to yield any results..

He worked for a long time as a designer for major automobile companies, but his best known design wasn't an automobile.

Congratulations, it is Hans A. Muth, long time automotive illustrator, Ford designer, BMW interior and motorcycle designer. Nowadays best known for his design of the  BMW R 90 S, R 100 RS and the Suzuki Katana. This Porsche proposal from 1958 is from his work for the German automotive magazines "Motor Revue" and "auto motor und sport".
