Be careful, the box might be from Pandora as it is not French.
Few...I was going to do something stupid..thank you!
Is it German?
yes
From a major German manufacturer?
Not a major manufacturer in the sense of Mercedes-Benz, Opel etc.
I think it is the "Standard Superior Rekordwagen" from the 1930´s.
500ccm 2cyl. 2-stroke engine:
Yes, it is. Earn your point by telling me the year. Locked for you, of course.
1933, me thinks...
Yes, it is. In 1933, this Standard Superior was driven by Friedrich Meyer and Freiherr Reinhard von Koenig-Fachsenfeld in Montlhéry achieving an average of 109 km/h over the distance of 500 km.
The bodywork was done by Vetter:
I found a very interesting information in the DKW book by Frieder Bach. This Standard Superior record car didn't have anything to do with the Standard Superior, but was a marketing coup by the Standard factory. It was in fact the DKW-based racecar of Victor de Strasser-Silton (https://www.autopuzzles.com/forum/2014-43/solved-wendax-1108-silton-spezial-by-victor-de-strasser-silton/) rebodied by Vetter!
Interesting!
To be honest I always wondered about that one
because it has nothing in commen with the Standard really.
Now I know why...
