In this case, however, it was certainly a good thing that somebody promoted it - because I wasn't even aware that I had posted it. So it appears that I have two puzzles #515 - it is the first time that has happened in my time here! So, hereby this puzzle is renamed - it is now What car #538, and it was solved by Tuckeroo.

I thought this one would throw the cat amongst the pigeons!

Although this car is described on various websites as just what you say, they may not be right.

The Banshee was de Lorean's proposed Corvette-killer and 4 prototypes were made in 1964 (not 1966 as it says on these websites), including 2-seater coupes/convertibles.  The puzzle picture is not one of them AFAIK.  But then again, these websites might be right and my source wrong...

Does anyone out there know for sure?

The Banshee name was incidentally re-used for a prototype in the 1980's.

I'll lock it for you until we sort out who is right and who is wrong!

As I searched Auto Puzzles using the name I had for this car it didn't show up..
Now that I searched using Pontiac Banshee I find that this is a re-post of @re's What Car #538 solved by Tuckeroo on 29/12/08!
You missed that one Otto!!

Can someone merge it for me please or alternatively delete it entirely?

And sorry, CyCarConsulting, but it means you don't get your point!

Thanks!

Wife: New Shimmer is a floor wax!

Husband: No, new Shimmer is a dessert topping!

Wife: It's a floor wax!

Husband: It's a dessert topping!

Wife: It's a floor wax, I'm telling you!

Husband: It's a dessert topping, you cow!

Spokesman: Hey, hey, hey, calm down, you two. New Shimmer is both a floor wax and a dessert topping! Here, I'll spray some on your mop....and some on your butterscotch
pudding.

[ Husband eats while Wife mops ]

Husband: Mmmmm, tastes terrific!

Wife: And just look at that shine! But will it last?

OK - you're both right. The full name of the car is Pontiac Banshee XP-798. It was built but not shown in 1966. Pontiac used the name Banshee XP-833 on the simpler 2-seat sports car they showed in 1964, which shared a similar front end design, but a solid rear axle out back (the XP-798 had an IRS). There was another Banshee (Banshee III) done up in the 1970's that was similar in appearance to the rotary Corvettes form that era. The last Pontiac Banshee foreshadowed the last production Firebird.

Yes - that's what I posted it as hence the confusion!
See Otto's post above for a bit more light on the subject.

The first of these cars (there were apparently two, one with a 6-cylinder engine which De Lorean gave it so that it wasn't "better than the Corvette" - a surefire killer for the project, and then later a V8) is currently For Sale at Napoli Classics in Milford, CT, for those who would lilke something really different and very definitely extra-special.

Don't think it's going to be cheap however, so best check that piggy-bank first.

I didn't win the lottery this weekend, otherwise I would have been on the phone first thing this morning..!
