The car in the background is not a Mallalieu, it is authentic  ;)

... and the hint car is a famous car with a famous first owner. The owner (also famous) at the time the picture was taken, employed the artist we are looking for.  ;)

Yes, it is John Burgess, curator of the Briggs Cunningham museum, which owned the Duesenberg SSJ in the hint picture. Since we already had figured out that it was a proposal for a Bentley, I declare this puzzle solved. Two black points for you, Otto.
