Wonderful car... The Quasar Unipower, designed by N'Guyen Manh Khahn, a franco-vietnamese designer known as "Quasar Khahn".

A few dozen were built in 1967/1968 with a rear Mini Automatic engine and gearbox by Unipower, Universal Power Drives of Peraval. Strangely, this thing has been approved by the Service des Mines, the french "Tüv" !
Today, much of these so-called "cars" are still running, privately owned ! In fact, the very first one is owned by a friend of mine.  ;D

I can't wait for a drive !!! I just hope there will be no need of an emergency brake...

Nicely detailed answer - that's the car.

I was waiting this puzzle, first  I thought that it was too easy when I saw so I made a search and I found another information for the same photograph. I'm not sure of its reliability because it appears in another forum, but it's true that there are differences with the photos I have of the Quasar Unipower. They named it as Voiture Carrée [bcollaboration  between Roland Troibranche (engineer) and ACASDERI (anonima carrozzeria automobili sportivo dell'Emilie-Romana in Italia). Other posibility is tha it was a prototype or a homemade modified quasar unpower, I don´t know.

Yes, I've seen the topic where you've seen the story about "Roland Troibranche" and "ACASDERI"... But it was a joke, on a french forum I know well !  ;D

Hi all !
Glad to see some words about the Quasar-unipower, a car that I love since ...a lot of years and for which I spent a lot of time (and money) in collecting infos, pics, articles, accounts...
I started to writing a little book on it a few years ago but some familial problems unfortunately did an unfinished project and delayed the publication. Anyway I still hope to be able to do that next time soon.

If they are some differences between the both pictures above it's because the first one is NOT about a Quasar-Unipower, but simply showing the Quasar QX1 Prototype made in France in 1966-67 by Quasar Khanh himself, assisted by a small mechanics team.

This car (-"the best one" says Quasar) is very different from the small batch of cars built in England by Unipower. It's never been registered in France for road use and is known to surviving in bad state until 1989 !! I lost traces of it since...

Please note that the first one car built by Unipower also have differences with the other cars as well as the car especialy built for England glass manufacturer.

Six Quasar-Unipower still surviving today. From wreck state to the one superbely restored in September last and shown at last Goodwood Festival.

Sorry for my bad English.

All the best, Danny

I almost drove the one built for the Triplex company this week, but it wouldn't start. Will try again in 2-3 weeks' time
