I agree with Pelland ;)
Shirley Muldowney is also known as "Cha Cha" Muldowney
Was she a driver herself?
While she may have occasionally driven, her skills were usually deployed elsewhere.
Black hole?

Not enough cu.in., I guess. :D
A singer?
No - you're thinking too far afield.
She was very close to the driver of this car.
Pat Garlits?
If she was close to Don, the driver of the car pictured probably didn't know about it at the time.
In other words, that's not Garlits' car.

Like Jungle Pam to Jungle jim?
Yes, like that. But in a more traditional way, too.
Let's sum up what I know or guess. I can't find it, but it may help others.
- This lady was the wife of a drag racer. The picture was probably taken in the late sixties.
- The car is a front engine top fuel dragster with a dodge engine.
She's not Pat Garlits, but do
:bag:
OK, upon further research it's not his wife. But they did spend a lot of time together. But as he was married, I'm sure it was a working relationship only.
That is indeed a Dodge powered dragster. It is slightly newer than the period you guessed.
Well, Dodge is written on the valve cover...
The batteries of my wireless keyboard died on me when I was starting to write this:
She's not Pat Garlits, but does this dragster have a Garlits chassis?
I believe the driver's own shop built this car. He was known for being quite a craftsman.
Tommy Ivo's darling?
Not an Ivo car (or girl)
Anything to do with Tony Nancy?
This is definitely Tony Nancy's car...just looking for the girl...
Wild guess here...Paula Murphy, Miss STP?

Right
Marjorie Nancy?
Is that Tony Nancy's wife? It's been established that this woman has only a professional connection to Mr. Nancy

I don't know!
That was just a (wild) guess.....
In other words, I'm telling you that's not Marjorie Nancy

J _ _ _ _ _ A _ _ _ _
Her fist name is a homonym of a type of clothing she is not wearing.
Her last name is a homonym of the first name of of an AutoPuzzles member who has little interest in or respect for hot rods and American custom cars.
So it would be something like "Jean Lupton", right?
But, to my deep shame, it can't find her.
I was going to say Jeanne Allan but that can't be correct if you say that her second name is a homonym of the last name of a puzzler. :-[

I was going to say Jeanne Allan
Which is correct, In spite of yet another gaffe by your's truly. Meant to type "first name".
Well, I just remeinded you that you had said before that it was not a Tommy Ivo car....
And later yhat it was indeed Tony Nancy's car.

Right
So I am surprised by that caption, now "Jeanne Allan and Tommy Ivo's dragster".
Ah!
Fixed. .
