For 1 point what's this, built by whom and from when does it date?

Google Image Search continues to raise its ugly head on AutoPuzzles.
For the sake of our newer members who may not be aware of past discussions on it, Google Image Search as a means of solving puzzles is banned on this website.

AutoPuzzles is primarily a game of automotive knowledge, not of who can copy and paste the quickest.

We ask all members to remember and respect this, and retain the right to ask puzzle-solvers how they came to their answer.

Have fun!

A homebuilt sports car on a shortened Tucker Torpedo chassis? If so, Preston Tucker's own idea of a Torpedo convertible beats this hands down. 8) 8)

Yes, that's what it is.
What's unusual about it is the fact the Ford engine is rear-mounted.
Well done.

Well, yes of course.  I meant it was unusual for an American car of the time..
Not many American specials of the period were based on a Mercedes 170H frame!

Probably not, but I know better than to say "no other" as there's always the chance someone more knowledgeable than I comes up with one!
