A well-known person in a well-known vehicle. And, a bunch of other guys.

For 1 point, make the connection.

For those of you playing along, that's not Jack Nicholson

This puzzle is going to a place as dark as the far side of the moon

Could those be the Ruppe & Son employees who built the 1910 Apollo automobile, where the Apollo program put the first man on the moon who was Neil Armstrong who is seen in the Mutt???

That's some fancy sleuthing, but no. These little shavers worked somewhere else.

Could they be workers for the Armstrong Automobile from around 1904?

Good guess, but no. They work for an automotive supplier, though at the time the picture was taken, they also supplied the wooden wagon industry.

Does the connection have anything to do with the Ford Trimotor?

I am aware of no connection with the Ford Trimotor

I guess the most logical route would be:

Armstrong > Mutt > Built by Kaiser/Jeep > which had acquired Studebaker (1964) > Studebaker Wagon employees

Are we any closer???

No, not really.

There is one nugget in there that you might build off of: "Wagon"

Well then I guess the connection must be Wapakoneta, Ohio.

Neil Armstrong was born there and the workers are from the Wapakoneta Wheel Company, where the little guys whittled down the spokes of wagon wheels and were called "little shavers".  They mostly made the wheels that were too difficult for others to make.
