Denby Steam Cartage?
No
I've found some similar called The Brotherhood Line
Interesting. It seems locomotive-cars were quite popular for a while.
The puzzle car has no relationship to that car, other than a similar appearance.
The name of this contraption conjures images of hoochie-coochie girls.
Its purpose was associated with a birthday celebration, of sorts.

About 311,591,917 persons celebrated this birthday last year. Another, far-away group of 62,218,761 did not.
Really? Nobody can make anything of these clues? :P
Another huge clue...
I had guessed a Washington's birthday celebration of course, but I didn't go further.
This birthday is celebrated after the summer solstice, and before the autumnal equinox.
10 days before the French do it?
You are wise indeed.
Independence Day (July 4th) parade car thing?
;)
Independence Day (US) is indeed the date in question.
Wendax got there first. ;)
Now, on to identifying that car/truck/train thingy.
I was prepared to post a good, stout clue about the builder's name, but it's not spelled exactly like the clue.
So, drink that in, and see what you come up with.
Builder's name Stoudt?

Builder's name Stoudt?
No, but you got the general idea. Think of a well-know peddler of 'Stoudt', and then misspell the name ;)

So. We have a parade on the 4th of July, year unknown, I'd guess late 19th century or early 20th. Location unknown, but for some reason my head is screaming, "Philadelphia."
Then we have a float or locomotive built by a Mr. Gunniss, first name unknown.
The name of the locomotive is also unknown, but another case of "screaming head" says, "Independence."
Now I'm gonna go back to bed for a while. Maybe something will sneak into my brain whilst I sleep for a bit.

I don't believe Mr Gunniss ever named it.

Getting very close to a solution, I think
Richard H. Gunniss of San Diego?
I have only the name "R.H. Gunnis" from my source - that much is solved.
I need somebody to proffer a complete answer, and this one will be solved.
R.H. Gunnis -that's the correct name. However earlier you mentioned Gunniss.
I think the year is 1901
'Locomotive'/car of R.H. Guniss at the Independence Day parade at San Diego CA on 4th. July 1900?

You're right. One 's'. The article is old and small, and my eyes are failing me.
This was indeed from 1901. The article I found it in calls it a "Burlesque Auto-Locomotive". I don't think the builder called it that, but I will likely be proven wrong about that, too.
I'll post the article tomorrow.
I'm giving 1 point each Wendax (for identifying the the occasion), Ray the Rat (the event), woodinsight (the location) and 2 to pnegyesi (for wrapping up the loose ends and completing the puzzle)
Thanks!
BTW, there is a typo in the headline (unless RH Gunnis was one of Leif Eriksson's viking men).
Congratulations team members :)
Most generous - thank you!
