When new, it was equipped with an engine from an established manufacturer. The builder later constructed and installed an engine of his own design.

When the puzzle picture was taken, that car was as old as yours truly will be for a total of 359 days this year.

For some reasons the puzzle picture looks utterly familiar. Anyhow, do you mean the puzzle survived the 2nd WW?

Clue:  Isaac Funk & Woody Hayes.  Isaac Hayes?  The only thing I think of when I hear of Isaac Hayes is "Shaft."  Could the car be called a Shaft?

Ohio.

It shares a lot of characteristics with a 1903 Peerless, but I cannot find a specific reference to this car.

Those are the guys. But you've otherwise extrapolated too far.

Not a Peerless; not from 1903.

As pictured, the engine was unique to this car. Originally, it had an engine from another early automobile

I got that backwards. As pictured, the car had a non-proprietary engine from another car.

I don't know if the car still exists.

It did still exist in early 1950's. A picture from that year shows this car in a much-modified state, with a different radiator, wheels, and with 2 headlights
