Bingo!

I'll post the article and other pics tomorrow. A well-earned 2 points for you.

Hmmm....the Weidely motor was also used in the Pathfinder, the name of which was later used by Nissan.

Two different right answers to the same question?

Otto Puzzell

Interesting - I think that's worth a bonus point.

I found that too, but did Pathfinder ever use a 4-cylinder Weidely engine? I may be wrong, but I got the impression that it was only the Weidely V12 that was used in the Pathfinder.

RayTheRat

Hmmm....if that's the case (V12 only) then I'll give up the point.  I'll check a little further.

That large timing case should be a good clue.
What did the chain drive? Must have been an external device. A generator??

From what I see from here the engine appears to have a large timing case. With either gears or a chain inside. Other engines I have seen with this feature usually have an external generator or other ancillaries driven from there.

And the point snarfing goes the other direction!

I'm leaving the points where the are.  ^-^

Here is the article from whence the drawings came:

A rather poor photo, but it's the only one I can find. This is a 1918 Mercury "sporting tourer".

There are more 1918-1920 Mercury images out there.  Most include "Model-T with Mercury body".

Tom_I

If they are based on a Ford Model T, they will be by the Mercury Body Corporation of Louisville, KY. That's a different company.

Ahhh.  The first one I found did have an OHV engine, but it was described as an aftermarket head.  So probably not Weidely.
