You are half-right, but it's much older than a 67 Beetle.

I'll lock this one for you for 24 hours.

My source says that the Leichtbau Maier was design in 1935

Otto Puzzell

Yep - a 1935 protoype by a Berlin-based company called Leichtbau Maier. The Beetle chassis and engine were added by the current owner as a means of moving the car around. The owner himself doesn't know much about the vehicle, and has asked for info from anyone who might recognize it.

• my sourece provides a little bit different spelling

I am confused.  Is it a Leichtbau Maier or not ?  If it is, does this puzzle complete Puzzle #1749 ?

Interisting! I didn't checked as my source gives different infos, almost on all counts! My source mentions indeed a mechanical base, a different year and a slightly different name. So, take it or leave it! ;)

Maybe the different spelling of the name is one reason why it's still a mystery on some online source....

But of course, it seems to be the same car as Otto's #1749

Again I have a different spelling for the company's name, but year is now correct, also the based car.
Locked for you till your next reply or PM me to prove that your source is right and not mine.

Moved to the BH till it's definetly identified.

I found some photos of the car in a 1980 veteran car magazine, one picture showing it lying on its roof in Berlin in 1945. The license plate was IA 212919, but unfortunately they didn't find an answer who built it.
