What's this and who was responsible for the modifications?

Google Search by Image continues to raise its ugly head on AutoPuzzles.
For the sake of our newer members who may not be aware of past discussions on it, Google Search by Image as a means of solving puzzles is banned on this website.

AutoPuzzles is primarily a game of automotive knowledge, not of who can copy and paste the quickest.

We ask all members to remember and respect this, and retain the right to ask puzzle-solvers how they came to their answer.

Have fun!

Is it a racing variant with a bigger engine?

It's been modified for competition.
Don't know that the engine is any bigger though.

As I said it's a close relation of the Mini Marcos, but it isn't actually one..

Paul Beever bought the car as a shell in 1982, and sold it in 1991.  He applied the aerodynamic changes to reduce lift, and to fit the rear suspension of a Mini Van.  Paul Beever indicates the car looked basically like the puzzle image when he sold it.

Andrew Stones owned the car in 1991.

Current owner is probably Patrick Gicquel in France.

(I doubt the point is mine)

Patrick Gicquel is the name I was looking for although incorrectly it seems...
He must have just restored the car recently but wasn't responsible for the modifications.
I've given you a point for producing the name I was looking for but I've also given geology a point because he correctly identified the person responsible for the modifications.

So it's solved!
