Ibis?
If you find an Ibis with four legs let me know...

Ah yes, silly me.
I was too busy thinking about the "It's not a cat" bit..!

Oryx?
:applause:
Sometimes I think you must have psychic abilities as 'Oryx' would have never been on MY top ten list of four-legged-not-american-animals, but again you did it!
It's indeed the VW 'Orix' (= Oryx*) completely designed by teenage (!) trainees of Autolatina's "design school".

*hope I won't get angry letters for that.  ;)

Just a lack of a broad knowledge of four-legged-not-american-animals! Oryx was the only one that came to my mind.  ;D

An Orix is a (two legged) bird.  8)
I'm sorry, seems I did not make my ornithologic homework.

You always have to bear in mind what names can feasibly be used as well.  VW Orix sounds fine, but surely they would never have made a VW Hippopotamus, or a VW Crocodile to name but 2 (although there was a VW Chameleon..)!

There is actually a fairly big difference between an Oryx and an Orix though (see below) although based on the info that it had 4 legs one can't blame Wendax for choosing the former!

BTW, the German name for the Euplectes orix orix is Oryxweber with a "y".  ;)

So you were going for the 4-legged variety of  Euplectes orix then, the oryx?!
Anyway, since the post was in English the German name doesn't count!

Mea culpa!
I should have lock it for Wendax and give him another try, though I think he easily would have solve the rest of the puzzle.
