Title: Solved - MJW #886 - Turner Mk II Special
Post by: woodinsight on April 12, 2012, 01:49:07 PM
I don't know who actually built this car but what I need for a point is what make and model the car was based on.

Looking at the steering lock, was it based on a Triumph Herald?

Not Triumph Herald based...
It's based on a production car but much less known than a Triumph.

Hmm lets see what I can identify....

Right Hand Drive - either that or the wipers are useless. - Therefore British made?
4 stud wheels eliminate a citroen as a base car.

But the track is very narrow.

Base car British?

Base car from 60s or 70s - the wheels make this look like a 70s car but the base may be older.

I believe the base car dates from 1961/62 but the body was a later creation.

Triumph
Ford
Hillman
Morgan
Lotus
Marcos
Berkeley

Okay, so we've established that the car was based on an early 1960s British car.
I should also confirm that it was based on a sports car.

Well that is a Mini dashboard poking up - but I wouldn't class a Mini as a sports car.

Singer?

Not a Singer and not based on a Mini either....(except for the dashboard!)

Triumph
Ford
Hillman
Morgan
Lotus
Marcos
Berkeley
Ginetta
Mini
Singer
TVR

Well, you're all skirting round the solution and I'm sure someone will guess it soon......?
The marque is not obscure and they produced almost 700 cars when they were active in the post WW II period.

Elva falls into the production range with the Courier, but I can't imagine anyone making something like that out of a Courier.

We have a winner!
It's based on a Turner Mk II (chassis no: 61/471) but there is no information on who carried out this conversion.
Another point for you.
