Title: Solved - MJW #897 - Watkins Triumph Special 1964
Post by: woodinsight on April 19, 2012, 06:42:57 AM
Not the most beautiful of specials but I guess each to their own taste....

What is this car based on - make and model, who built it and in which year?
One point for the full and correct answer.

I think I've seen it before. Was it Triumph TR6-based from Switzerland?

You're on the right path by saying it's based on a Triumph.
However it's not based on a TR6 and the country of origin is not Switzerland.

Based on Triumph Herald, built in 2007 by Mike Morris

Not that one - somewhat beefier than a Herald base

It certainly looks a lot like Mike Morris' wooden 1969 Coupe d'Erika.  Except that it isn't made of wood.

Perhaps Mike Morris modeled the Coupe d'Erika on it?  ;D

Another unsolved one that I now offer two points for.....
One point for the model that this Triumph-based special is based on - the model name suggests that this is a speedy car although I doubt that....
One point for the surname of the man who made it - there is a well-known diesel engine whose name is seven letters long and is the same as the last four letters of this car's constructors surname.

Beefier than a Herald?  How about a Dolomite?

Yes, it's based on a Triumph Vitesse - so a point to you.
The name is not Hawkins although the last four letters are correct.

I'll LOCK it for Paul Jaray for another guess as he was very close but missed out one letter (it should be 7 letters)

Sorry for the late reply.

I'll go with Watkins.

Watkins it is!
Here's the original advert by Mr. Watkins when he decided to sell it.
