I really don't have any information on this sports racer except for the name and the base car make/engine.
One point if you can name these two items and perhaps a second point if you can provide the full information on the car.

According to my source it is BMW based or has a BMW engine.

Picture was probably taken in 1955 where he did four races with an Eigenbau and starting number 47. The 1955 car was listed as "BMW Eigenbau", entrant was BSG Chemie Rudolstadt (BSG = Betriebssportgemeinschaft = company's sports club). There are some listings of the PGW with Heinz Paris in 1953.

Have you any idea what BMW engine was used? The 328 engine and its siblings were very tall engines and wouldn't fit under that bonnet. Was it perhaps a BMW flat twin motorcycle engine?

Checking on Martin Krejci's excellent site I see it ran in the 1100cc class which does seem to suggest the smaller motorcycle engine. As it raced in the DDR it was presumably a prewar engine.

Yes, I'd tend to agree with you on that Duncan.
Presumably front-wheel drive as well.
