Identify what this car was based on, the year it was built and who converted it for a point.
Too difficult for the Rookies - does an Expert know?
Moving up to the Pros as this one is not easy....

MG based?
No, it's not based on an MG - chassis or engine
Going one step back: British base car?
Yes it's British
Bristol?
Lea-Francis?
Not Lea-Francis....(it's a smaller car than a Bristol or a Lea-Francis)
Singer maybe?

Singer maybe?
Not Singer......
I think the fairest thing to do with this puzzle is to offer one point for the base car/year and another for the builder/driver.
HRG - based
Riley?
Austin Midget?
Well the wheels look like Austin 7 but smaller diameter than standard. . .

Yes, it's based on an Austin Seven......
I will award the first point to the person who can fill in the missing 'x's -
Austin xxx Special 19xx
Another point to the person who can name who the driver/constructor was.....

Austin 100 Special 1960?
Not that although the xxx is a number.
1960 is the wrong decade.
let's try 50's
Austin 750 Special 1955?
WSM?

Austin 750 Special 1955?
Austin 750 is correct and 1950s is the decade - 1955 is incorrect.
LOCKED for you for one guess only as to the year.....otherwise it will be open to all again to guess the correct year for the point.
1957?
Quote from: Wendax on August 12, 2012, 06:16:24 AM
1957?
No - you were closer with your first guess.
Open to all again.
1953?
1954? :D
WTH '56? ;)
Allemano is correct so one point for him and I'll also give a point to Wendax for guessing the Austin 750 part.
Bad luck Otto.....
I'm feeling generous this weekend!
Anyway, the question (and one point) remains for who can provide the name of the constructor.
The car was built in 1954 on a 1928 Austin Seven chassis.
A clue - His surname is similar to a feature at the Le Mans circuit.
Here's the two unadulterated photos of the car from my files -
Thank you. I guess the constructor wasn't called Dunlop-Bridge? :D

No but you get my drift.... ;)
Is the constructor Roger Ainsworth?
No point please for such a trifle.. ;D
Mr. J.W.Whitehouse (like 'Maison Blanche' turn at Le Mans circuit)?

Please keep the point - it helped to get closer to solving it and it was a feel good Sunday for me! (not too many of those!)

I'm glad you picked up on the clue - it is indeed J.W. Whitehouse's Austin 750 Special.
Well done and another point for you.
Heeeeey! :D
But I've had no idea before that clue, in fact :-\

Glad you found it and I have to add that it's great to reveal another car that would otherwise be lost in the mists of time.....
Watch this space for more of the same in the future.
