Identify this car correctly for 1 point:

Google Image Search continues to raise its ugly head on AutoPuzzles.
For the sake of our newer members who may not be aware of past discussions on it, Google Image Search as a means of solving puzzles is banned on this website.

AutoPuzzles is primarily a game of automotive knowledge, not of who can copy and paste the quickest.

We ask all members to remember and respect this, and retain the right to ask puzzle-solvers how they came to their answer.

Have fun!

It sure looks like a 1950 Veritas as raced in 1950s SCCA events.

It's not a Veritas I'm afraid.
But you're not a million miles away.

Well, since the Veritas was based on the BMW 328, that'd be the logical guess....1941 or so.

No, it's not a BMW either..
Bit later than 1941.

It is a BMW 328-derived racing car, right?

Would this be considered an 'Eigenbau'?

AFM?

Yes, it's an AFM!
Now, which one and which year?
You may also tell me who was driving it in the picture and at which race as well, although that's not vital for the point!
Locked for you to start digging.

1951  AFM 50 Sport BMW

Possibly driven by Karl-Günther Bechem (D)  at Hockenheim

Yes, that's exactly what it is.
As driven by Karl-Günther Bechem in the 2000cc/1500cc Sports Car Race at Hockenheim in 1951.
Very good.

Sincere apologies Tackitt but I hadn't spotted this reply, only your following one.
It might have helped you had I replied to this; sorry.

It does seem to be, although it looks to be different bodywork in my puzzle without the streamlined headrest.

No!

In fact, from what I know, it IS an 'eigenbau'. Bechem bought the remains of a crashed AFM single seater in which Karl Gommann was killed and built this sportscar upon them, so it's not a 'works' AFM car, but a special based on one.

Yes, I have it on my database as the Bechem-AFM Eigenbau 1951/52.

I swear this is a duplicate, but I can't find it.  1949 Veritas Meteor at the Sachsenring?

Scratch that.  It's the AFM 50-BMW probably at the Nurburgring.

It is a repost of a quite recent puzzle of mine.
I'll see if I can find it..

OK, found it (it's from earlier this year) and topics merged.

This is really strange, my source doesn't mention it as a AFM and with a different driver as well. But picture is the same... That's why I couldn't find it in the search section. So who is right ?

Above is what seems to have been the definitive answer last time around..
Maybe it's time I changed the title!
