I have the same picture saved under 'Jaguar Specials' so I'm guessing there is a Jaguar underneath somewhere but I can find no other info as yet

Well, that's progress.
It is a Jaguar spsecial, but I also have a model on which it's based plus a date.
Locked for you for 24 hours to see if you can come up with those answers and earn a point.
ok i think i have now re-found the website i originally found the picture on. It's quite well known so it must be the one.
it says..........
1954 Jaguar Special based on an XK150
though from the picture there's not much left visually of the original car

Was there such a thing as a Jaguar XK150 in 1954?!
quite right!
I'll pm you the link where I got that date from, it's the only website that i've found this car on.
if the date is correct it must be based on an XK140, if not i'll guess again
1954 was the changeover from XK120 to XK140 - I'm not sure if it was launched at the 1954 Motor Show or whether sales began in 1954. So, as you generally don't build a special on a brand new chassis, the odds are that if this special dates from 1954 it was based on underpinnings from an XK120, or possibly a Mk VII saloon.
I've given geology a point for find that it's a Jaguar Special from 1954 although repeating the error on the web!
But there's still a point going for you D-type if you can choose which of those you're going to reckon it is!
Good luck!
I tossed a coin and it says "Mk VII saloon"

Bad luck D-type..
I have it as an XK120, which I hope is right..
Rats! I'll get my own back on that treacherous coin by spending it.
Does this special have a name? It appears to be LHD so is it American?

See the heading!
If it does have a name I don't know it, but if anyone can come up with it I'll give them a point too!
this was one of a small batch like this built on XK150 chassis basically wrecked rusty unrestorable cars I will post the chassis numbers later
