TVR Trident # 4 roadster made in Italy  ;D  by Fissore (1966)

Very very close, but only one TVR Trident convertible was built, in 1965 - and the puzzle car is not it!  Compare the instrument panel for instance..

But the puzzle car was built by Fissore and is closely related.
So what is it?

Locked for your reply!

No, I said it wasn't a TVR

so, the first Trident Convertible (1966)?

Yes it is.
After the collapse of TVR in 1965 East Anglia TVR dealer Bill Last acquired the plans for the TVR Trident with the co-operation of Fissore and Fiore.  The buck for the TVR Trident Convertible was used by Fissore to make this car, which was displayed at the Racing Car Show, Olympia in January 1966.  It was to remain the only Trident Convertible as the next Trident built was the Clipper coupe shown at the Racing Car Show in January 1967; subsequent Tridents were all coupes, the Clippers having the 289 cu in Ford V8, the later Venturers the Ford Essex 3-litre V6 and Tycoons the Triumph TR6 straight six.

Starting with a very attractive design, it was uglified bit by bit down the years and was pretty ungainly by the time production ceased in 1974.  In 1976 however a Chrysler-powered Trident was shown at Earls Court, and marked a low point in its design at the time, but which was actually surpassed some years later when the car re-surfaced in South Africa sporting all sorts of addenda and spoilers and purporting to be an Aston Martin DBS replica!  After that it mercifully sank without trace.

It is believed this unique Trident Convertible (as opposed to TVR Trident Convertible) was taken to Australia by Bill Last when he emigrated there and it probably still exists somewhere in that country.

Here are some more photos of this interesting car:

I didn't realize that was your car.  It's absolutely stunning!  Those wire wheels must be a real bitch to keep clean and shiny.   ;D  Anyway, it's gorgeous, not to mention rare. (1 of 3 coupes?)

Yes, the final one of 3 coupés.
The trick with wire wheels is not to get them dirty in the first place..!  Of course, on the occasions when that's not possible it's not too bad with wheel-cleaning sprays suitable for chrome.  It's polishing them that's a bitch.. 288 spokes in total plus the rims.. Plenty of aches in fingers!

Here are some nice shots of the car:

And for interest here is that first Trident Clipper coupé on display at Olympia in January 1967; you can see how similar it looked to the TVR Tridents before the styling got completely messed up.  Amazingly though there is not one single interchangeable part between the TVR Tridents and the Trident Clippers - none of the glass nor any of the interior!

Once again, it's absolutely gorgeous.  I'm almost jealous.  Almost.  ;D  I like my new Camaro.  It might not be as rare, but the wheels will be easier to clean.  And it's FAST.  I did some "testing" yesterday and it really got the attention of my friend in the passenger seat.  His eyes got real big as I ran it up to redline WOT in 2nd and 3rd as I was on a curving freeway on-ramp.  I was doing over 90 when I got to the top of the ramp.  Then I slid it into 6th and slowed down to legal speeds.  I think I got his attention.  LOL.  I need to avoid repeating that too many times or the consequences could be unpleasant.   :hah:  But look out for crazy old farts in muscle cars.

Ohhh....I forgot. Very nice number plates on your car.  That seems almost as unique as the car itself.

One of my better investments; such numbers are worth crazy prices today - hundreds even thousands of times more than I paid for it...!
