A variation on the theme found in my previous puzzle.
No points for guessing the theme, but once you know it, guessing cars will be easier... maybe.
As usual, I am only concerned with the make name -- not models, technical details, etc. Also, there may be reposts.
More to come!
P.S.: Thanks to pnegyesi for his generosity in allowing me a "steal" a car from him. As his reward... he's not allowed to say what the car is! ;)
Tossing this one to the Pros next...
Car 2: Dennis
Car 4: Dort
Car 5: Edis
Car 8: SPAG
Car 9: Erad
What? You mean there are some you don't know? ;)
And do you see the theme this time?
If I knew the theme, I probably would have solved more. ;)
Let's just say a knowledge of English will be helpful...
I do know and understand the resulting words, but I miss the background to find the context. :(
It's actually pretty simple. The name of each make, when spelled backwards, becomes a not-too-obscure (and not-too-short) English word. So far we have: sinned, trod, side, gaps, dare.
(And, yes, these are pretty much all the makes I could find pics of that meet that criteria.)
#6: Semag
Correct again!
Coincidentally, a puzzle of a Semag (http://www.autopuzzles.com/forum/index.php?topic=18624.0 (http://www.autopuzzles.com/forum/index.php?topic=18624.0)) was solved right around the time I came up with this puzzle idea, so I had to dig up a different pic.
The ones I expected to be the toughest remain...
Is #1 French?
Is #3 from Eastern Europe?
Is #7 European?
#1 is French.
#3 is not from Eastern Europe.
#7 is European.
Is #3 British?
Is #7 from Eastern Europe?
#3 is not British.
#7 is not from Eastern Europe.
Is #7 the Nug built from 1921 to 1925 by the Nug-Kleinautowerke Niebaum, van Horn & Co?
Yes it is!
BTW, that's the one pnegyesi graciously let me "steal" from him.
Note that it will be the only one with only 3 letters.
I don't have a picture of it, but #3 isn't the Remag, isn't it?
Nope. I couldn't find a picture of it either!
Is #3 German?
BTW, the only Nug picture I knew so far was this chassis:
#3 is not German.
Is #3 French?
#3 is not French. It's from somewhere that didn't have as much of an auto industry as France or Germany.
Is #3 Swiss?
#3 is not Swiss.
Is No3 European at all?
#3 is the Flac from Denmark
No1: Luap otherwise known as Mignonette?
Flac is correct!
#1 is not a Mignonette-Luap. I did have that one on my original tentative list, but it ended up not fitting any of the final puzzles' rules.
Hint on #1: Its name backwards makes a longer, and less common, English word than the rest. It is also not the only make with its name.
#1 - Rossel (Lessor)?
That's it! And we're done! (OK, "lessor" was a longer word than most of the rest. Sorry for that goof.)
1 - Rossel - woodinsight
2 - Dennis - Wendax
3 - Flac - Wendax
4 - Dort - Wendax
5 - Edis - Wendax
6 - Semag - Wendax
7 - Nug - Wendax
8 - SPAG - Wendax
9 - Erad - Wendax
Car I most wanted to include but couldn't find a pic of (if indeed any even exist): Stesroc!
