Aussies {Australians} do that sort of thing. And sometimes they put a y or ie on the back of the word as well, eg, carby, Johnny, Jacky, brekkie, trackie etc.
English comes in all shapes and sizes.  A lot of people are influenced by what they hear on TV and at the movies.......

Some days ago I found a very interesting brochure of a ca. 1913-1914 K.R.I.T., imported to Strasbourg/Strassburg, then Germany, later France.

The street should be the current "Allee du Schluthfeld".
