You may well translate the text. It might improve your knowledge of German poetry, but won't help you to find out what this car might be.
For one point, please respond and identify this car, its coachbuilder and the year it was built.

Maybe it isn't German. Is it the Tatra that Röhr built under licence?
It's German right from the beginning.
Once upon a time there was a lonesome pro looking for an answer to the riddle the princess told him.
Will he be able to finish this "Märchen vom Glück" (fairytale about luck)?
A German Ford Model A?
No
Not a Ford of any kind?
No, some of the other guesses were closer to the solution. :(
While the grill would suggest otherwise, other features remind me of a BMW Dixi
It's bigger than a Dixi 3/15 PS (and not a BMW either).

No problems with your eyesight, sir. It is a Wanderer. Locked for you to find the missing bits.
I'm afraid that these cars are a bit of a mystery to me. I'll have one not-very-educated guess, but then please open it up, as there will be others far more familiar with these cars than I am.
So how about a Wanderer W22 of about 1935, with bodywork by Gläser of Dresden?
Not bad for a "not-very-educated guess"! It is a Wanderer W22. The year and the coachbuilder are wrong though.
But I give you one more try before I open it up.
How about 1933 for the year? I really don't know about the coachbuilder - I'll try Reutter, but I suspect it will be something more obscure...
Not Reutter. I'll look up the year tonight.
Open for all.
Wanderer W22 Roadster by Wendler 1933?
I've found another picture of a very similar Wanderer W-22, but, alas, no coachbuilder info. Maybe this will help somebody else along.

1933 is correct

It's not only similar, but the same model and coachwork. Some details on this picture might lead you to its original purpose which was far from serving as a romantic setting.
Papler?
No
Hmm....still a few possibilities yet.
Sindelfingen?
No, the coachbuilder built quite a lot bodies for Auto Union
Buhne?
No
Ihle?
No
Baur?
No
Hebmüller?
Neuss?
Neither Hebmüller nor Neuss
Drescher?
No, less obscure
Baur?
No, neither Bauer nor Vetter, geographically closer to Wanderer
Without referring to the geographical location - Ludewig?
No
Erdmann & Rossi?
No
Hornig?
Yes, it is a 1933 Wanderer W22 with a Hornig body. To obtain the point you just have to tell me what the car was used for which will lead to the body designation. Otto's picture in Reply #42 wil be helpful. Locked for you.
Was it used in Alpine Trials (Alpenfahrt) covering c.20,000km?
Yes, it was used for long-distance rallyes like the Alpenfahrt. I don't want to torture you anymore. I was looking for the "Geländesport" designation. Six W22 Geländesport were built: three in 1933 and three in 1934. They only differ slightly. In fact, the one Otto posted is the 1933 version with doorhandles and a grill with less bars than the 1934 version from the puzzle picture. I found it quite amazing to find a rallye car as staffage for a romantic postcard. Can you imagine something like that with, let's say, a Metro 6R4 or an Audi Sport quattro S1?
One more point for you.
Thanks Wendax.
I did think of adding 'Gelandesport' (with umlaut) but thought Alpenfahrt was more important.....
I also learnt something new and interesting today through your puzzle.
Same car, next lady:
Also available as RHD :lmao:
Same car, changed positions:
It was also driven in ice and snow, only the cooler mask looks a bit different - or was this a W21?
It is the 1933 version of the W22 Geländesport, as seen in reply #42.
Right, thank you!
