A little hint: A son of this town had the worst time of his life in Germany a long time ago. The town was also home of three families of world famous craftsmen whose works are regarded (and valued) in their field as high as a Bugatti or Ferrari in the automotive world.

More than a hint, this is another puzzle into the puzzle... 

The son of Cremona having the worst time of his life in Germany was Publius Quinctilius Varus. He lost three Roman legions and his own life when attacked by Germanic leader Arminius in the Battle of the Teutoburg Forest in 9 AD.
The three worldwide known families were Amati, Guarneri and Stradivari, crafter of string instruments.

Stefano is the coachbuilder and Cremona is the city, is it? Or is he called Stefano Cremona and based somewhere else?

Stefano is more often a name than a surname, while Cremona is a common Italian surname...
