What are we seeing here?

If you know, please respond below and let us know the make and model of the car into which the attendant is pumping gasoline.
There is probably no way to find the name of the owner who modified it, but the basis car may not be so hard to identify...

If you haven't registered yet, you need to do so in order to reply with your answer. You can do so by clicking here.
Also, please be sure to check out our other puzzles, and, please post a puzzle of your own if you'd like - the more, the merrier.

Thanks!

Well I'm guessing he isn't just filling a car with petrol or diesel.

So something to do with the type of fuel - it looks more like a natural gas type connector.

It looks a bit early for natural gas.  Is it being filled with coal gas?

The more you learn, the more you realise how little you know.

The car is propelled the old-fashioned way. Plain gasoline.

I've seen this photo before. It's like a modern day hatchback, where they have used the center panel from the rear of the car and extended it out. I have no idea what make of car it is, sorry.

RayTheRat

Since you've asked for make and model, I'll say Ford, Model A (1928-1931).

Ray B.

Craig must have seen this photo rather recently, as I did... Because it did appear recently on the internet.
@ the other Ray: not a Ford, but the period is correct.

(Smacks himself in the head) Of course it's not a Model A Ford!  The gas tank's in the cowl in Model As.  Duh!

What was I thinking?

A clue before this one goes to the pro board: The author of this picture is quite well-known. ;)

Is it an Ansel Easton Adams photo?
You wanna be the man, you gotta Name That Car!

I've also seen this before. I don't know what the car is, but I think the photo is by John Vachon.

It's a 1929 REO Flying Cloud. The photo is indeed by John Vachon and it shows an "Auto of migrant fruit worker at gas station in Sturgeon Bay, Wisc".

Maybe I've been too generous with my clues again: it was solved as it takes to a flock of hungry piranhas to strip a steer to the bones!
