Is this in Europe?  The caravan is not American.

Good eye - this picture was taken in Europe.

Some competition? Perhaps 'how fast can you tow a caravan before it disintegrates'?  ;D

Actually, it remained intact.  :)

Any connections with Eifelland?

I think Eifelland is a brand of camper / caravan? I don't know if this trailer is one of those...

Let's put it this way: It looks like a speed record attempt for caravans. Did it happen in Germany?

A record-setting attempt, indeed.

Not Germany.

That paint job seems so familiar from reading Street Machine as a kid, so this must be the UK in the mid '80s??

I'd guess it's a record attempt for quickest caravan tow down a 1/4 mile dragstrip

Not in the UK; it may have appeared in Street Machine, but that's not where I found it.

The time from this run was submitted a well-know record-keeping organization, but I don't know if it was accepted as a record.

I assume the well-known record-keeping organisation was (is) Guiness. Did the record attempt take place in Scandinavia?

Wise you are. Right on both counts.
