For one point please tell me what car is this (obvious), what is the event and who is the driver.

For whatever this is worth, the car is a 1978-1980 Volkswagen Rabbit built in Pennsylvania, USA.

Did this event take place before 1985?

How do you tell the difference between a Rabbit and a Golf?
Duncan Rollo

The more you learn, the more you realise how little you know.

Square headlights which were more-or-less compulsory in the USA then

Thanks.  I knew that something looked different but couldn't see what it was.  On a scale of 1-100 my powers of observation must rate a single digit number!

I must be right - that's what it says on Wikipedia

re: Rabbit vs Golf - Also, Golfs are equipped with horizontally mounted side markers, and the Rabbit markers are vertical.  (If I recall correctly, during at least one of those years, the diesel Rabbit was built in Germany, so it was sold in the U.S. with round headlights and horizontal side markers.)

faksta

It is a Rabbit, of course. The event took place before 1985, yes. Whether it was a celebrity race or not, I'm not 100% certain, sorry :(

Is this Wally Dallenbach Jr. Horst Kwech, at Mid-Ohio, racing in the SCCA Rabbit/Bilstein Cup?  Probably 1981 or 1982

faksta

It is an SCCA VW Rabbit Cup (it was referred to as 'VW Cup' in my source, but I suppose it is the same thing in this case?), but slightly earlier than you have stated. Driver and venue are different, though.

1980 SCCA Rabbit Bilstein Cup

Driver Kip Andreas?

Is the driver Bob Hoskins?   ;D

Is the driver Gary Benson?

faksta

1980 it is, right. Driver is none of the above, though. He is a better known person.

Not him.

You're on the right path, though (just looked up who Kent McCord is :P ).

WayneB

Larry Wilcox from CHIPS?

sixtee5cuda

Off the path, but still famous:  Roger Mears?

faksta

No, neither. Remember I was not sure whether it was a celebrities race or a normal one - that might be a little (or a big?) clue.

Cuda, you've been close, but the final hit was made by nicanary, so a point for him. Better luck next time :)

Oh wait, I forgot about the track! An additional point for naming the track then.

sixtee5cuda

Brainerd is the track
