For one point: Identify this car, the driver, and the time & place this picture was taken
Only a correct, complete and specific answer will earn a point; tag-on's to other guesses will not. So, be specific and complete!

Australia ?
Indeed!
Is it some sort of trans-Australia drive ? The setting looks pretty remote, like Alice Springs.
Wheels seem Ford '30s ones...Is this picture from the '30s?

A long journey, indeed, but not exactly as you've described. This picture was taken far from Alice Springs

Did the journey start in another country ?
Yes, but this picture was taken in Australia
London to Australia ?
London to a place in Australia
The puzzle shows Frances Birtles who drove his 14hp Bean from London to Sydney - he started in October 1927 and picked up a passenger P E Stolley in Calcutta. The photo shows him arriving in Sydney on 25 July 1928. (It dosn't look like Sydney to me, unless it's just outside the city)
My source indicates another city
I have found several images none of which state where the car is pictured, The website for "Old Motor" suggests that it is Sydney.
The source where I found this image was closer to the subject.

Post Office, Elizabeth Street, Melbourne. (Some sites claim the trip was to Sydney, but Wikipedia says it finished in Melbourne. i don't know why I didn't try to Wiki it in the first place.)
Not there.
Darwin ?
About 1,500 miles from there.
The only other place recorded as a "stop" is Longreach. Is it there ?
Not there.

I'm still here ! Brisbane ?
Not there...
I'm sure this photo was taken in Blackall, Queensland.
That's the place. You need only put all of the puzzle answer pieces together for the point.
Locked for Craig Gillingham or nicanary
Go ahead Craig. You found it. Well done mate - I found that image on several sites but none of them said where it was, and I knew my guesses at large cities were way off. I'll get you back when the Ashes start !
To solve the puzzle, it's Francis Birtles in his 14hp Bean car, name "Sundowner', in the last stages of his London to Melbourne drive. The photo was taken in Blackall, Queensland on the July 2nd 1928. He finished his drive in Melbourne on July 25th.
Nicanary, considering the way we're playing at the moment, I think you'll do well.

That guy Birtles looks like someone from a Mad Max film.! ???
Craig Gillingham and nicanary have both been good sports about this; I'm giving each a point. Well done, lads.
Thanks Otto. Very generous of you. The more I look at his photo, the more he looks like one of those guys who live in your street, and you tell the kids not to play near his house. Too many axes hanging on the shed walls.
