I dunno what it is. But one thing is sure for me: that rear is so GORGEOUS!

No, the car, and the car model upon which it is based, are long-gone. However, the parent company of the donor car remains in business, building abd selling cars.

Not sure if this is a clue or a statement! But (as a European) I think the USA have built some incredible sports racers, the Cheetah is a particular favourite of mine.

Does the puzzle car have Porsche mechanicals?

Yes. Other examples had other horizontally-opposed engines, sourced from other makers.

So, if it had some Porsche engines mounted, it's quite possible it could also have VW Bug engines too, assuming it was Bug / 356 based. But I know you'll say it doesn't get me any closer to finding the manufacturer. And you're probably right...

And the engines used sometimes came from the same kind of car than the donor car, but often came from another brand, and, sometimes, another land.

I just thought, 'hey, this should be googleable' - and it was.

This appears to be the 1963/4 Sabel SR Mk I prototype, serial number 001. Features Porsche 356 lightweight aluminium drum brakes and suspension pieces.

Not my piece of pie, really, this puzzle, but if you can google it, well... ;)

It looks like one of John Sabel's ASR sports racers from the 60's, based on VW Beetle floorpan, The MK3 had a Kamm tail, so i'll guess a MK 1

The car above eventually used a 356 motor with a VW transaxle from the donor Beetle, but was sold before long to race one of my $500 Speedsters. I was in art school so I made the print of this picture my girlfriend at the time (eventually my ex-wife) took and made the changes desired with a pen. It wound up with Corvette taillights, then Cortina taillights on a Kamm rear, TR gauges, a SAAB rear glass laid down as a low aero windscreen and personally vacuum-formed Lexan headlight covers, widened VW wheels on VW drums (hillclimbs required very little braking..duh) There is a website for Sable cars now. I wish I had that one back.

Unfortunately I used the incorrect spelling of 'Sabel' in my Search (as per the previous Owner's post) hence it didn't show...

Here it is, post-restoration. It was restored to a later iteration with better cooling of the engine bey - the original configuration seemed to have none!
