I've since learned that this is a fairly old re-post, but most of the questions I have asked were not answered in the original post, i.e. who built it and what it was based on.

Therefore the puzzle stays and I will need those answers plus what is this car's particular claim to fame for the point..

Car was build by Suresh Kumar and later modified by his son, Rishi Kumar.

And the "fame" thing... Is it the driver, Kinny Lall?

Yes, it was built by Suresh Kumar originally.
