Name this car and a point be yours
Haha, that's what I call a typical Quiller puzzle. ;D

Quite. He could write a book on the bizarre and weird!
Oh, just a minute - he already has!
Expert attention required
To the masters of the bizarre and weird...
Is it Russian?
Purely on the strength of the wheels I'd say it was British....?

And the fact that it's RHD! Yes, it's from the UK ;)
:bag:
self-built by some dotty backyard 'specialist' or is there any 'company' behind? :D
As far as I know, it's a pure one-off. If a company were involved, it surely didn't last that long with workmanship that 'special' :)
Is the answer available online?
Not something to do with the Adams brothers before they learned how to do it properly is it?

No! I think Dennis Adams always knew his onions
Skodec-Diva Martin Valkyrie? (I hope not!)

!! (no)
As a Diva aficionado I heave a sigh of relief!
I'm still trying to find a photo of the Skodec-Diva if anyone knows of a source....... :)
Did the puzzle car appear in a kitcar magazine or in one such as Autosport?
It looks like the Marcos Mantis XP when I take my glasses off and squint a bit...........

I have the original photo in my collection - and I can't say I've seen it anywhere else. This is the very definition of obscure!
Wilde?
Anything to do with Les Redmond?
I only have the name of the car, not the builder
Is the name an original one or was it used before?

Not used on any other car before or since (as far as I know)...
Is it named after something (or someone?)
I thought it was an invented name, but I did a search online for it and the name appears in the works of JRR Tolkein, no less...
Legolas?
Sindar?
Neither Legolas nor Sindar...
Perhaps it's called the Hobbit?
The way it looks Gollum would be more appropriate. :D
Mordor?
Just to warn you, it's quite a obscure Tolkein reference
Shadowfax?
Is the Tolkein reference, the name of a place?
It's the name of a not-particularly-well-known female character in The Silmarillion...
Elwing?
Haleth?
Neither of those...
Nienna?
Shelob?
Lalaith?
Shelob would be a good name for the spider version.
But alas, none of those names matches...
Rìan?
It must be Varda, because "she is said to be too beautiful for words". ;D
Neither of those...
Luthien?
Melian?
Nor those...
Aredhel?
Idril?
Nienor (also known as Niniel)?
Andreth?
None of these, by my liege
Morwen?
Bump!
Not Morwen, and I don't recall a character called Bump in Tolkein's oeuvre ;)

Indis regard... No
Sauron then?
Aerin?
Morwen?
Thalion?
Arien?

Arien?
That's the one! :applause:
The full list of characters from Tolkein's oeuvre makes daunting reading, so I'm glad we didn't have to go through the lot!
The Arien was a 1974 one-off with a plywood chassis, Ford Prefect mechanicals, glassfibre body and a Morris Marina rear screen as the windscreen
Phew...there were dozens of names left!
That was fun...I really would like to know a place were those rarities are featured...book or magazine.

I don't believe the Arien has ever been seen before in any publication - print or internet.
The idea of a book about specials and one-offs is a great one, but it might be a hard sell to the public. There was once a magazine called Specials in the 1980s devoted to one-offs but, er, it turned out to be a one-off too!

It wasn't by Chris Rees was it?! Or maybe Peter Filby..?
Ah yes a Peter Fibly publication it was indeed

I love all his publications - they are always witty and entertaining.
Even his titling is entertaining, such as producing a volume 2 when there is no such thing as a volume 1...!
I know you know him well having co-written with him, as indeed I do as he's featured my car in his latest TVR tomes..
