This is the Bugatti type 40 #40765, rebodied in 1956 by Egmond Authorn, perhaps using jaguar parts.

I have slightly different information regarding Bugatti Type 40 (chassis no. 40765).

According to my source (The International Bugatti Register) the car was rebodied in the style of a Jaguar XK120/Bugatti 101 by van Egmond (NL) in 1951 whilst under Dutch ownership.
The car was later sold to the USA and rebuilt by Davis 1956? as a Torpedo Roadster replica.
The dates are by no means exact.

I'm unsure whose source is more reliable but I thought I'd post this for further clarification if possible.

Christies sold this car, rebodied again in 2001. They also mention Van Egmond (a common Dutch family name) from the village of Uithoorn (near Amsterdam). Seems like somebody messed up the name of this village. There is definitely no village with the name of Authorn in The Netherlands. Rebodied in 1951.

Sorry but I lived 45 years in Holland and this sounds like Clouseau saying I want a reum or that Charl the Goal was president of France.  Some sources are really messed up.
I stick to Van Egmond from Uithoorn.

That's what I originally had in my coachbuilders database so I tend to agree.....
