What was this car called, who drove it , and what were the base car and engine?
I must be right - that's what it says on Wikipedia

The car is called "Color Me Gone" Custaxie.

It was driven by Robbie Francevik.

The base car was a 1955 Ford Customline (version sold in New Zealand), it has a transplanted bid block 427 Ford wedge engine that came from a Galaxie , hence the Cust axie name.

It was raced in New Zealand in 1966/67.

Perfect answer! If you look up photos of the races in which it took part, there are some weird and wonderful machines in NZ saloon racing of that time. It won the saloon championship in '67.

You can see the 1955/56/57 Ford roof and rear fender line better in this photo.

I must admit, I didn't think New Zealand initially, more Ford Fairlane Pikes Peak racer.

Interesting car though. :)
