Post by: Allemano on July 17, 2013, 08:55:41 AM
On request here's the puzzle of the car that was discussed in another thread before...

What the name of this car?
Who built it and when?
Who made the design and which racing team was involved?
Who was the driver?

Yes, but that's not sufficient to get a point. Please read the initial post.

Drivers at Targa Florio 1962 Abate-Davis; test driver for that imagine, I would say Guerrino Bertocchi.

Built for Serenessima, I can image the body by Fantuzzi. Project by Giulio Alfieri

Sorry, that's not right by almost any account.. That it was built for Serenissima is correct, though.

Perfect!
Such a pity. I wished it would last a little longer.

Scaglione??

Is there any more data regarding his involvement in this car? This car has very little 'styling' in it. I find it very surprising the 'need' to call a stylist to draw a shape for this particular car. Thanks, d.

I was confused when you asked for "the" driver, because most cars have more than one during their lifetime. The magazine article settles the confusion.

It was co-driven at Sebring by Carlo Mario Abate, a regular team driver, although I doubt he got a ride because the car retired after 16 laps. Other drivers nominated to drive as reserves were none other than Graham Hill and Jo Bonnier.

I note that this is the same chassis which was rebodied by the Scuderia, and has appeared on AP recently in the later guise.

I know this car for quite a while and always wondered if it ever was intended to look like this:

.. since I saw it on AR with additional info. I wasn't aware of Scaglione's involvement either. Apparently the car suffered from cooling problems in its later career...

Well Wikipedia sometime has the correct information, that's where I found most of the answer, but #64001 and Nino Vaccarella I found elsewhere.

Translation of Wikipedia Italy
"The first model had a body designed by Franco Scaglione , a former designer of Bertone , and was built by Gentilini and Allegretti for the Scuderia Serenissima . The second specimen came from a Type 63 damaged by the team of Briggs Cunningham at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in October 1961 , and later restored [1] ."
"Built to participate in the competitions of the World Sportscar Championship , the debut of the two specimens occurred at the 12 Hours of Sebring of 1962 but both withdrew"
