Group B Rally car chassis?

Carnut

Neither a Fiat nor a Group B rally car!

Bodywork looks vaguely Ford Escort...ish.

nicanary

Anything to do with DAF?
I must be right - that's what it says on Wikipedia

Carnut

Nothing to do with either Ford or DAF..

I don't know.  I haven't been able to find anywhere that describes its purpose, but it sure looks like a Group B or something.

That body looks familiar - is it a Simca 1000 Coupe?

Close enough that I think I'll give you that; actually it's a 1200S.
I haven't really been able to find out much more than that about it; it's just described as a Simca 1200S prototype, but whether it was a factory rally car or what I don't know.
Maybe one of our French members can fill us in?

It looks as if it has moved quite a distance from being a Simca 1200 S Coupé. At least the rear half appears as a tubular frame with mid-engine layout following loosely the Simca looks.

nicanary

Which makes me think it's built for competition. A prototype for rallying or rallycross. Thanks for the point.

Same wheels and flip-up rear but the car in dzima's pictures have a swage line all the way from front to rear, which the puzzle car doesn't seem to have..
So it looks like you're right thorax, although it could of course be a development of the same car..
