This is a replacement for the previous #638 that was a repost (Lloyd Alexander Frua/Ghia-Aigle Coupe).
For a point what's the name and year of this small sports racer?

I don't think it's meant to be a Maserati copy of any kind, and it's not from South America!

Is it an actual old racer, vs. a newer look-alike?

Is it an actual old racer, vs. a newer look-alike?
It's a genuine oldie. But it does look in remarkably good condition for a car of its age so I guess it's probably been rebuilt once or twice along the way. I haven't been able to find a great deal out about this car apart from the details I'm asking for, though I do know the basic details of its motive power.

1960 witton special?
That's the car, yes.
But - I now see that makes it a re-post, as the source where I found it had mis-spelled "Witton" so of course the original puzzle didn't show up on the Search.
However, the car looks surprisingly different in my picture from how it appeared in the original puzzle (e.g. the front lights), so I'll give pnegyesi the point for getting it but I'll have to merge it nevertheless as it is actually the same car..
Well done anyway.

Indeed - it looks a lot different - I never would have guessed they are the same car. Witton actually built a handful of specials in the 1960's, along with formula cars.
Are these indeed the same car? I suppose that the car could have been modified over the years, as was typical of low-budget constructor-racers. Here are more pics of the car in woodinsight's puzzle:

Perhaps this is a partial clarification. When entered at the 2005 and 2006 Monterey Historics, it had this sign affixed. It leads me to believe the first puzzle represents how the car looked in 1959, and the second puzzle was a later iteration.

I agree. It's too similar for it to be a different car altogether I think; and both are described as 1959 (or 1960) Witton-Chevrolets.
