Possibly a UVA M6GTR, in which case it was produced from 1982 to 1985, and was originally intended to be VW Beetle-powered.
I must be right - that's what it says on Wikipedia

Looks American so I am betting Cody Coyote

Carnut

It's not a UVA, not a Cody and not American!

It wasn't built by him nor does it have a Honda NSX engine, but it was built in New Zealand!

Mararn from NZ
Full name: FDL Mararn M6GT Replica (FDL - Fibreglass Developments Ltd.)
In 1970's they used original VW-kits (and engine from VW Beetle) for Mararn.

Carnut

Yes, most were VW-based although understand they could also be based on some FWD Japanese car!
This particular car was built by Ian Byrd and Tim Monck-Mason I believe.
The Mararn was basically the same car as the Manta Montage but with the name changed for the cars made in New Zealand.
